Jorge Augusto Echeverría Merlo

For over 25 years, Jorge, a Guatemalan-Mexican psychologist, has worked at the nexus of human development and rights in indigenous communities. As PSYDEH’s General Coordinator for the last 12 years, Mr. Echeverria has designed and produced projects while coordinating PSYDEH’s field team of professionals and community partners to ensure successful activity implementation. Mr. Echeverría recently completed a three-year term representing PSYDEH as Hidalgo’s only NGO sitting on the national citizen advisory board to the Mexican federal institute making indigenous community development policy. Mr. Echeverría’s career began in 1992 with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)’s multi-year initiative in the Guatemalan Ixil triangle during and after the decades-long Guatemalan civil war. Mr. Echeverría is a graduate of the School of Psychological Sciences, la University de San Carlos de Guatemala.
