PSYDEH’s Inaugural Community Radio Campaign to Combat Political Violence Against Indigenous Women

PSYDEH, in collaboration with indigenous experts in community media, has just finished its first community radio campaign to engage rural indigenous citizens around the issue of political violence against indigenous women on as part of our 2017 collaboration with INMUJERES to strengthen indigenous women’s participation in Mexican electoral processes.

On September 9, PSYDEH produced the first spot in the series.

English language transcript:

” Have you ever heard this? [the sound of a person walking on hay]. “Ana, bring more wheat for the donkey? I have told you, women are meant to serve only in the house.” “But, I am only going to… ” “Shut up! You have no voice. You are only a woman.”

DON’T LET YOURSELF CONTINUE TO BE VIOLATED. You, woman, you are capable and have the same rights as men.

Make decisions in community life.

Vote and be voted for.

Organize yourself collectively.

Make clear demands of [government] authorities.

Decide for yourself and participate.

This is a message of Psychology and Human Rights, Instancias de Municipality Government and INMUJERES’ program “Proequidad.”

On September 25, PSYDEH launched the second spot in the series.

English language transcript:

Have you ever heard this?….[Huapango music is being played in the background].

You, woman, you are capable and have the same rights as us men.
