Tech for All

Equipping rural and Indigenous women and their communities with digital skills and tech tools in Hidalgo, Mexico.

Tech for All is a digital inclusion program. It provides tools for PSYDEH’s team, local women and rural communities so they can sustainably address socio-economic inequalities. The program includes free digital literacy workshops and expanded access to information and communications technology (ICT).

Tech for All helps to reduce the inequality gap between women and rural and Indigenous communities in the use of technology, strengthens digital skills, enables remote communication, and strengthens women-led cooperatives.

Empowering rural and Indigenous women.

Tech for All enforces digital rights, placing technology in remote and marginalized places. This program helps to diminish the inequality gap between rural and Indigenous women on the use of technology, it also strengthens technological skills, allows distance communication, and strengthens women-led cooperatives.

Increased curiosity in tech skills.

Through Tech for All, the community knows and respects PSYDEH's work and our mission. Also, in the last year, our team has learned how to design engaging presentations for our cooperative incubation program using new tech tools and thanks to this approach, we've generated an increased curiosity among the women partners to learn more about technology and digital skills.

Isolated communities gain connectivity and safety.

The harsh geographic conditions of the Otomí-Tepehua-Nahua region mean that it's very difficult to guarantee any kind of internet connection in the communities where we work. Because we must travel between incredibly isolated communities on long bus rides, it's common to have no phone signal. Now, when we arrive at the digital resource centers where, in collaboration with Viasat, internet antennas have been installed, our team can use the internet during cooperative workshops, attend video calls, and inform our team that we've arrived safely at our destination— none of which was possible before Tech for All.

Satellite internet access in four municipalities.

Thanks to Tech for All we have access to satellite internet in the four municipalities where PSYDEH works. Now the women allies can access information, make emergency calls, and the PSYDEH staff can perform the work much better, for example, it has supported us in the production of the Cooperative School of our Sierra Madre Network program to present online information and materials, as well as have online meetings or show the women allies other organized groups that can help them consolidate their group.

Assist community members in personal and community development through innovative tech solutions to increase social, economic & gender equality in the region.

The culturally appropriate and rights-based use of digital tools is key to empowering from the ground-up, solving problems in a sustainable way and promoting more just and inclusive societies.

16 professionals from North America and European offices of the USA-based global satellite wireless company Viasat, PSYDEH team, and staff from Casa de Cultura of Acaxochitlán, Hidalgo, Mexico, during a ten-day work project coordinated by USA-based non-profit Team4Tech in November 2022.
