US Youth Fundraise for PSYDEH’s “Fruits of Change” Crowdfunding Campaign

In the first of two planned actions, and following a PSYDEH staff member’s visit to her high school in May 2017, Kate Taylor, sophomore at Kenston High School in Bainbridge, Ohio organized a June 17 fundraiser outside of an area Walmart to achieve four objectives:

SERVE INDIGENOUS MEXICAN WOMEN wanting to do for themselves by raising funds to be donated to PSYDEH’s Fruits of Change campaign produced with US-based Global Giving. These funds support novel women education and community organizing training. With more education and organization, Kate believes, women can solve their own problems, in the USA and Mexico. And with right solutions to problems, rural indigenous women will build their own strong communities and thus can immigrate to the USA not out of need but because of curiosity or other.

IMPACT BAINBRIDGE AND AUBURN, OHIO communities with an informative experience. Kate uses Mexican coffee to give Americans a sensory experience and she uses posters, videos, photos and indigenous women’s craft work to educate Ohioans about the “real” Mexico where people hope for the same as Americans. In effect, Kate and PSYDEH plant seeds for fruits of change in Mexico and the USA.

LEARN THROUGH EXPERIENCE. Kate wants to use her Spanish skills to volunteer in an international setting where English and Spanish are the working languages.

BUILD SKILLS. In producing this series of fundraising events, Kate hopes to grow her project management, communication and team building skills, the same as that which the indigenous women for whom she volunteers learn through PSYDEH’s work.

Kate plans to integrate more members of her community into her team when producing the second event in the summer/fall of 2017. Moreover, she hopes to visit Mexico to practice her Spanish when meeting the women leaders in whom she now invests.
