Collaboration with Pilot Project on Fixing Mistaken Government Data

Our Indigenous Women Citizen Network is collaborating with the Organización Independiente Para Comunidades Indígenas de Bajos Recursos Económicos (INCUBASI) on a small pilot project in the municipalities of San Bartolo Tutotepec and Huehuetla.

Organization representatives (Leaders) advise a project linking rural citizens to state authorities capable of correcting mistaken personal data.

Mistaken personal data is common and a serious issue.  For example, if your birth name is Yulini Gonzalez but your identity card says Yulane Gonzalez you will be denied basic services. Correcting these mistakes is time consuming and expensive. Thus, Leaders serve as conduits between citizens in San Bartolo and Huehuetla with authorities based in Tenango de Doria charged with resolving the inconsistencies at no charge to the citizen.

The project is funded by CDI and managed by INCUBASI.

With anticipated success, Leaders envision scaling the project throughout the Region and policy recommendations to local, state and national policy makers.

More generally, in light of this collaboration and that of Leaders’ work on a climate change mitigation project, we foresee increased collaborations between economic and political rights based democracy and civil society building initiatives. The Organizations and PSYDEH will drive this collaboration with projects executed in all areas discussed in the Regional Development Agenda, e.g., health, education, gender equality and justice.
