Global Giving “Fruits of Change” project continues to strengthen indigenous women-led NGOs

The “Fruits of Change” Global Giving project funded by global donors has four objectives, including: Strengthen the women’s Umbrella Network of nascent NGOs with a series of five, two-day monthly work sessions for the 20 women leaders of these NGOs.

Our goal?

Each NGO’s leaders learn how to launch more self-determined projects, e.g., distributing clean-burning stoves or growing organic gardens, as well as right decision-making and management strategies to sustain organizational progress. For example, we train the women to develop their own vision, mission, values and organizational histories as well as their own professional NGO logos.

On October 14 and 15, PSYDEH produced the third in the series of work sessions to tighten organizational focus, including developing the NGOs logos and their first projects.

Those able to participate, despite the ongoing deluge of rain in the Region, were Nahua leaders of the nascent “Yolki Ini Yolo” (Acaxochitlán), Otomí leaders of “Flor del Bosque” (Tenango de Doria), and Otomí leaders of “Mujeres con Futuro” (San Bartolo Tutotepec). Otomí and Tepehua leaders from Nuevo Amanecer Ra ‘Da ‘Yo Neki could not attend due to road closures in their municipality of Huehuetla.

Here, women partners are engaged by PSYDEH’s new colleague Alexia Toscano, strategic communications expert based in Mexico City, via a video presentation on four strategic questions around logo development. She uses the video to engage the women in a client (NGO leaders), service provider  (Alexia) relationship negotiating to produce a tangible product reflecting clients’ demands. Post video presentation, PSYDEH’s Global Giving project field coordinator, Otomí sociologist Diana Ramírez, facilitates an exchange between and around Alexia’s four strategic questions and earlier work linked to strategic planning and rights. Alexia will deliver, in person, the first draft of professional logos at November’s work session.
