PSYDEH’s Global Friends Travel to the Region to Learn About how PSYDEH’s Program Strengthens Native Communities
On Saturday, September 24, thirteen people from Austria, Canada, China, Brazil, Germany, Kazakhstan, Mexico, The Netherlands, Russia and the USA, many of whom are members of PSYDEH’s global crowdfunding board of advocates, traveled to the community of Ejido Santa Monica, Tenango de Doria to meet native women leaders and learn how PSYDEH’s program strengthens communities.
Among the many experiences enjoyed by the group were:
- learning about how PSYDEH’s citizen education and community organizing work has spontaneously led to nine local-based, pilot projects inspired and managed by native women leaders, including a water capture system and clean burning stove initiative launched in Huehuetla, Hidalgo.
- exchanging ideas on ways native women and their regional cooperative can market their artisanal crafts outside the Region.
- touring a reforestation project launched in 2016 to combat climate change and poorly informed logging practices in Ejido Santa Monica.
- discussing ecotourism opportunities when hiking the Ejido’s 150 hectarias of beautiful forest.
- sharing stories from respective countries and a meal prepared by native women including free range chickens, homemade tortillas and mole and aguardiente.
- taking in the community’s Temazcal to close out the day.
Global citizens are stronger together.
