Empowering vulnerable Mexican women and communities to solve their own problems is the core of PSYDEH’s mission. Why? Women are impact-making leaders when supported. We innovate a model to foster female-driven, sustainable community-led development as the antidote to inequality. And we show a way forward for similar organizations around the world on how to grow as impact-making outfits.

HOW PSYDEH WORKS WITH PARTNERS

Cause Marketing, Cross Fertilization & Leader Development

PSYDEH can engage corporations looking to be socially responsible, including while helping them to develop high-performing staff and connections across geographic and business areas. For example, we can help partners transition into socially responsible companies by developing consumer-facing campaigns that enable them and their customers to actively show support and contribute to community-led sustainable development. These types of collaborations are designed to increase public awareness about PSYDEH and our local partners. The further generate essential funds to advance human-centered development efforts.

Philanthropic Giving

Companies may also provide funding to help support specific PSYDEH initiatives with the women and local communities we serve. Whether funding an initiative that is directly related to your core business or an issue that the company and employees find meaningful, PSYDEH works to ensure each philanthropic contribution supports lasting development initiatives that empower Mexican citizens to lead the development of their communities.

Sustainable Business

PSYDEH can collaborate with companies to work smartly and ethically in and around rural and indigenous communities in Mesoamerica. We can design our approach to sensitize companies around the unique challenges they and the communities in which they operate face. In effect, any project created adjacent to or in these communities is done with free, prior and informed community consent while advancing the companies’ business objectives.

OPPORTUNITIES

Strengthen Citizens & Responsible Governance

Adult leader training and organizing are the core of our mission. Why? In marginalized central Mexico, wages are unlivable. Communications technology is suspect, even non-existent in many areas. Climate change and a lack of information on managing the conditions wreak havoc. Public services are poor. Citizens do not unite across “boundaries” nor make informed demands of an often opaque government. Too many men must abandon their families to work elsewhere. PSYDEH allows for citizen mobilizing and education around these areas. Join us in educating citizens and government on the law and strategies we need to improve and execute effective decision making.

Improve Human Security

In Hidalgo, the 6th most marginalized state in Mexico, up to 86% of the population earns the rural poverty threshold of $80USD per month or less. Access to water, electricity, and communications technology is suspect. PSYDEH and partners decrease communal vulnerability by employing micro, high-impact projects to mitigate the effects of this marginalization and the impacts of environment and climate change. Join us in our efforts to empower local people to produce their own initiatives like bringing clean-burning stoves, rainwater capture systems, or myriad capacity-building actions to their own communities.

Build Individual and Communal Resilience

Indigenous women in our target region are central to families, communities, and cultural traditions, but play a minor role in civil society. They average a 3rd-grade education. 95% report violence and discrimination, and few women travel inside or outside their area. Our partners demand change. How? We produce local and regional events like our regional public forum series and training to build individual and communal autonomy, as well as to facilitate bonding, bridging, and linking social capital between citizens. Join us in creating safe spaces in which women partners can learn and lead together.

Combat Inequality from the Bottom-Up

The wealth and wage gap between the rich and poor is larger in Mexico than in any other OECD member country. COVID-19 only exacerbates this disparity. The Mexican government invests directly in “the pueblo”, but in unclear, ineffective ways while simultaneously cutting most funding to organizations like PSYDEH. Top-down development remains the dominant development theory, but PSYDEH knows a better way. Bottom-up, citizen-led sustainable action, with appreciative-inquiry-informed support is key to the right solutions. Working together, PSYDEH and companies combining strengths can help local people create the solutions they need to make a lasting impact.
